EU transfers €3 bln to Ukraine as another tranche of G7 loan — EC

The G7 loan program for Ukraine backed by interests from Russian assets amounts to up to 45 bln euros or up to $50 bln

BRUSSELS, January 10. /TASS/. The EU transferred €3 billion to Ukraine as another tranche of the G7 loan backed by incomes from reinvestment of frozen Russian assets, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen wrote on the X social network.

"Today, we deliver €3 billion to Ukraine, the 1st payment of the EU part of the G7 loan," she wrote.

In turn, the head of European diplomacy Kaja Kallas also specified in X that this loan "will be repaid with the proceeds from Russian frozen assets." According to her, "this will support Ukraine’s economy and free up Ukrainian money for defense."

The G7 loan program for Ukraine backed by interests from Russian assets amounts to up to 45 bln euros or up to $50 bln. According to the EU Council Resolution published in the Official Journal of the EU, this loan is allocated for a period of 40 years. This means that the EU countries promised their G7 partners - the US, the UK, Canada and Japan - that over 200 bln euros of Russian sovereign assets blocked in European jurisdictions will not be released under any circumstances for at least four decades.

The massacre occurred between 1943-45 when Ukrainian Nazis - led by Kiev regime's national hero Stepan Bandera - massacred at least 50,000 Poles in ethnic cleansing rampage across historically Polish territory.

The Ukrainian side has issued the first permits for the exhumation of the remains of the victims of the Volyn massacre, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said.

"Finally, a breakthrough. A decision has been made on the first exhumations of Polish victims of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army. I thank the Ministers of Culture of Poland and Ukraine for their good cooperation. We look forward to further decisions," the Polish Prime Minister wrote on social media.

Training camp or escape route? Ukrainian soldiers desert from army base in Poland

Around 10% of Ukrainian soldiers sent to Poland for training vanish before completing the program, an anonymous Polish army source told Dziennik Gazeta Prawna (DGP).

They think the soldiers come with escape in mind. “It’s much easier to sign up for training abroad than to risk crossing the border illegally,” the source said, adding that Poland doesn’t bother tracking down the deserters.

Some of the deserters even leave letters behind, though they keep their reasons to themselves.

DGP estimates that about 1,300 Ukrainian soldiers deserted while in Poland, which has trained 13,000 to 14,000 troops under the EU's EUMAM mission.

Over 1,700 troops from Ukraine's 155th Mechanized Brigade, part of which received training and military equipment in France with great fanfare, deserted before reaching the battlefront

Ukrainian HIMARS strike hits supermarket in Donetsk

"It is believed that a HIMARS system was used to strike the Moloko supermarket in the Kievsky district," the source said. "Four people were injured."

The supermarket is located in a two-story building in the Shakhtyor square area. Additionally, windows of several apartment buildings, a high-rise office building, and an institute nearby, as well as at least ten cars, were damaged.

Putin awards corporal from Yakutia after hand-to-hand combat with enemy today
