Just a thought Randles, and something to make you smile...
Have you considered practising your Elvis dance with your daughter? It might be able to counter act the tremors, you never know.

Guys, have another look at Quakewatch. I wrote a post previously about the quakes all being lined up!! My daughter and I compared other sites round the world where there have been multiple earthquakes. Christchurch for one and also Porta Rico. These places also experience daily quakes. Not as many as the Canaries, but still, many earthquakes. Non of these other places show earthquakes in lines like they do in the Canary Islands!!! Its still odd to me. Amzer So, your explanation seemed quite feasible, but when comparing the Canaries with other places round the world, the lineups of earthquakes seem to be only in the Canaries.

Carmen - there was an instance lately on the swarms of EQ's on the Czech/German border where they were aligned. They also had over 1000 quakes in a highly unusual place. Explanation was that they were so close together the machine just adjusted their positioning! Well I checked that and they were definitely linear, and not always close together... how 'odd'!

Good morning Avalon, and what a beautiful morning it is in in the Canary Islands

    Update from

    SEISMIC CRISIS

    Accustomed to the calamities
The inhabitants of El Hierro are taken with serenity and resignation seismic crisis and ask what they have to make it happen''and''.

    SERGIO GUTIERREZ, DiarioElHierro.es, Valverde (29.09.2011. 7:45 pm)

The uncertainty has been installed on the inhabitants of the island of El Hierro, on the one hand, we are bombarded with calls for calm and, on the other hand, observe how the island has the largest military deployment and health history.

"What has to happen, it is now and that nothing happens" is the thinking of many of the inhabitants of El Hierro, weary of so much fear and uncertainty. "It's difficult to live with so much shaking in my home," confesses DAILY IRON a resident of El Golfo. "I have fear, but we always say that nothing happens and it's normal," says one resident of the municipality of El Pinar. "What I want is that this is over now, and if you have to explode the volcano to do already and that nothing will happen," a fisherman sentence of La Restinga.

The Iron Soldiers take a possible event within preventive protocols if, finally, the dreaded magma, the same that created the island for just over a million years, it occurs out destroying the eternal stillness of the Sea Las Calmas, or El Julan, where sits the Tagoror, Bimbache Monument where the ancient inhabitants of the island gathered in the light of the moon.

And is that the iron has already suffered evictions, destruction, agony, tears and despair. We have been hit by terrible fires, heavy flooding, evacuations and where it was feared for a moment, first the flames scorched the quiet village of El Pinar (the two major fires that have ravaged the place), and the other that waters feared belongings ended up with the inhabitants of this town, where earthquakes shake today.

And more of the same border. Their peaceful inhabitants, always fearing the shadow of the cliff that surrounds it, has also suffered calamities hard to forget. The latest floods remain unchanged in the minds of its inhabitants, where there was significant damage to homes, farms and roads. Losses that amounted to millions of euros.

Maybe that's why, when the islanders are told of "evacuation" will sound as "family". Now these towns, which must be added, La Restinga, and landscapes of the sea of calm, and the Julan, are being shaken and nobody knows what will happen tomorrow.

However, the inhabitants of the peaceful island of El Hierro continue their daily work, without remedy, and hope that eventually the volcano that has begun to stir, forget the island for now and go back to sleep, to least 300 years."

What's happening with the display of the earthquake positions for El Hierro is that they are so close to each other that the programs they (Google, Quakewatch, RSOE EDIS, etc...) use for displaying these positions are not accurate enough.

Therefore they round up the coordinates to the next higher order decimal available. The problem resides with the zoom capabilities of the program they use, it doesn't go beyond a fixed amount and they adjusted the coordinates computation and display to that maximum zooming.

That doesn't mean the EQs themselves are occurring on a grid pattern. To verify, this check the positioning of the EQs here: http://www.01.ign.es/ign/resources/v...ia/HIERRO.html, there are 8000+ EQs concentrated within a 0.10 x 0.10 square...

No grid pattern there, as their plotting program is far more accurate, down a few more decimals than on Google Earth and the likes.

You can go to this page: http://www.01.ign.es/ign/layoutIn/vo...ntidad_dias=10 and try to plot the Longitudes and Latitudes given on a diagram and see for yourself for fun...

    Good observation otherwise.

PS: These are real earthquakes (check above diagrams) delineating the progression of a real magma chamber over a known hotspot/plume.

Gradually the Canary Island of El Hierro calm down. On Thursday, the schools have resumed their normal activity and 500 schools in the municipality of Frontera have returned to class, in view of recent scientific reports indicate that the scale of earthquakes seems to have slowed and entered a stationary phase.

However, it remains closed to traffic, risk of landslides, the tunnel that connects the island's capital, Valverde, to the valley of the Gulf (north), the most affected by earthquakes, as reported by the director general Security and Emergency of the Canarian Government, Juan Manuel Santana.

This required to change school bus routes, so that children in the municipality of Frontera Valverde studying in his school reach across the top of the island.

The half a hundred people on Tuesday were evicted from their homes in the town of Frontera spend another night outside their homes (most are staying with family and only a dozen remain in the dorm Valverde), but this Thursday will review your situation and decide whether they can return.
    8000 earthquakes since July

This was noted by the President of the Cabildo, Alpidio Armas, who has stressed that the islanders will have to learn to live with the situation presented in El Hierro from mid-July, a period in which the island has been rocked by more than 8,000 low-intensity earthquakes of volcanic origin, most imperceptible.

"This is a topic that we will have to learn to live, if not stopped. We're going to have to integrate into our lives, peace and responsibility," added Armas.

The chairman of the council has insisted the message of tranquility that all authorities have been saying for days and stressed that the scientific reports indicate that the situation appears to have entered a stationary phase.

In the same vein, Santana pointed out that such events are cyclical seismic events caused by the pressure of magma in the subsurface, so that "fall within the normal." In fact, the volcanic risk in light of El Hierro is still located in yellow, in a situation of "pre-alert."

The Director General of Security of the Canarian Government has also explained that the latest information available indicates that the focus of the earthquake is shifting to the south of the island.
    Effective deployment of the EMU

Insular President Paulino Rivero stated that the situation is of "utmost calm." Has traveled there on Wednesday the Minister for Defence, Carme Chacon to oversee the next few hours the deployment of the Emergency Military Unit that landed about four this afternoon at the Iron to support effective civil protection to any contingency .

The minister and the president have met canary for several minutes with the scientific committee that analyzes seismic movements are recorded on the island since mid-July and are now more than 8,000.

may be we should all think of Polly as an ageing lothario he's spent all this time preparing himself for the big event but sadly it just turns out to be a big dissapointment all round, a damp squib!

"all that shaking and grumbling and it comes to this, don't waste my time again".

it's probably because we were all watching, poor old chap.

    Maybe you are right...
Kind of reminds me of Shirley Valentines husband who couldn't have steak and chips...
Maybe Polly was offered egg and chips on Tuesday ??

I'd recommend an alkaline diet for Polly... and nothing that's gonna give him gas please!
