In light of the US veto of a ceasefire resolution in the UN Security Council, and noting that the UN General Assembly has overwhelmingly voted in favor of an immediate ceasefire that Israel is ignoring, and further noting that the Israeli Defense Force is actively carrying out military operations in Gaza that can only be described as genocidal, and further noting that the Israeli Defense Force is actively preparing to expand the scope and scale of its regional aggression, it is time for Hezbollah, Syria, and Iran, along with any other like-minded nations, to declare that Israeli actions in Gaza and in general represent an imminent risk to the security of all Palestinian people, and the Middle East as a whole and, in light of this threat, that a collective security arrangement is being entered to by Hamas, Hezbollah, Syria, and Iran which, under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter, will initiate preemptive self defense operations against Israel with the goal of neutralizing the threat posed by Israel to Gaza, the Palestinian people, Lebanon, Syria, Iran, and the Middle Eastern region as a whole.
Hezbollah and Syria should immediately begin military operations designed to relieve the pressure from Gaza and the West Bank by seeking to expel Israel from the Golan Heights and Shebaa Farms, and occupy northern Israel. Hezbollah and Syria should begin a general bombardment of Israeli leadership and military targets, with an emphasis on destroying Israeli airfields and military concentrations. Iran should refrain from attacking unless Israel escalates by bombing civilian targets in Lebanon and/or Syria, or if the United States enters the conflict on the side of Israel. If either or both of the conditions arises, Iran should use the totality of its longe-range strike capabilities to neutralize US military capabilities in the Middle East and eastern Mediterranean Sea, and to eliminate Israeli military capabilities to project power outside the borders of Israel. Pakistan should announce as formal policy that it will retaliate with nuclear weapons against Israel should Israel use a nuclear weapon. All military operations will continue until which time either Israel is defeated or Israel agrees to unconditionally adhere to the will of the United Nations General Assembly regarding the implementation of a ceasefire.
Of course, this will never happen, which is why Israel will probably end up prevailing over the long run.
This is the time for decisive action to eliminate the threat of Israel to the collective security of the Middle East.
Golda Meir forever regretted not launching a preemptive attack against Egypt and Syria in 1973.
Hezbollah, Syria, and Iran will likewise regret not launching a preemptive strike against Israel now.

So whether Palestine "ever was a state" might be seen as a somewhat abstruse historical debating point, and there are some nuances in there which proponents of every position can draw on to make their case — whatever it might be.

Manmade states and laws can be adjusted any time, and probably should be, frequently.

When Netanyahu is on the mission of Isaiah--maybe he cribs the line without even believing it--the whole thing is interpretive. What you can be sure of is that Isaiah never specifically mentions the 2020s like Ezekiel certainly does not name Russia.


After only one person protested in Mumbai, now we see crowds in Kerala. Is there a difference on a human level? Probably. Kerala was trading with Gaza in 3,000 B. C. E. The Keralites are nowhere near the Indus River, speak their own language, and had no Brahmanism until it was sent to them in the eighth century--which was about two thousand years late. Kerala lacks any identifiers that would make it appear to be a good match for the modern state of India. Most Indians are Zionists.

Europe spent most of its known history trying to rid the Pope of any temporal power.

And so while a two-state solution has been proposed, the other, and more likely proposal, is one state, Palestine.

In a recent turn, Saudi Arabia condemns the ground operation, and yes, that will make a difference because Arabia is much closer than Iran. If it stops kissing western feet, then, Israel will never be secure, or perhaps it will never be.



In the Islamic world, "Israel" is in quotes, because they are quoting someone else rather than saying Zionist entity:

At this point, the two-state idea will have the added difficulty of justifying "Israel" as being one of them.

Ukraine and Israel are both 1900s fabrications which may simply disappear.

I have no idea how you operate an under-tech'd ground force coming from one city which is easily pulverized. Neighboring states have made plenty of rhetoric, which obviously does not work, so they are running out of options other than force.

That's not an Arab, and he purports to give a history lesson, concluding with the land belongs to Israel and that the Palestinians, or as he might say, "people who call themselves Palestinians, but aren't really because Palestine doesn't exist", are vermin. He's an Israeli spewing Israeli propaganda mixed with the Israeli version of history.

Israel didn't exist before 1947 - Israelis are the interlopers, the occupiers, in the land called Palestine (regardless if the USA refuses to declare Palestine a "state" or not.)

The other video that you keep referring to was your second post in a row, that one from some Saudi Arabian elite guy, probably one of the many princes in the dreadful monarchy. You want to hear an Arab demean other Arabs, just find a Saudi Arabian, or find a Sunni Muslem Arab to badmouth a Shia Muslim Arab, or vice versa. Dennis: Why are you taking this so personally? I am trying to stay somewhat aloof from the maddening rush to accuse, even though I have more of a stake in Israel than hardly anyone else on the Avalon site, besides Israelis of course. You can ask me about this privately some time. I just find all opinions on the subject of the Middle East conflict interesting, and wish to hear more from all sides.
I am curious as to why that particular Arab Muslim has those particular opinions, when he doesn't fit the mold of what we would expect. I guess we will never know, but somehow he feels to me to be elitist in the Arab world, if his pristine outfit indicates to others, as it does to me.

Again, it is rare to see Arab men making any kind of personal statement online like this man did. And I am able to stand back and appreciate whatever I can glean from his statement. Most of what we see of the world protests today tell me nothing about the issues, except watching people waving flags, and screaming.

Regarding my own national status, I happen to be a dual-citizen, U.S.-Australian. Since you mention Australian aboriginals, I have a special fondness for their culture, and collect their art, as I had two past lives as an Australian aboriginal, one as a shaman. All of us have played different parts in our past lives. Many of us have been Jewish. Many of us have been Muslim. Even you, Dennis, have had six past lives as a Jew, and eight past lives as a Muslim. So the intense energy surfacing right now around Israel and Gaza reflects the intensity coming through from having had past lives in these cultures.

Let me help that foot a little farther into the mouth.

Amalek is a bit like the Jewish expression for anti-Christ. Note the traditional origin:

It was supposed to be the first and recurring enemy of the Israelites, which lacks any evidence:

Herod was an Edomite Jewish convert whose dynasty ruled Judea for centuries.

But this line of Esau has been a Judaic enemy for ages.

This is why Judean lineages are said to be ritually unclean, if not unreal, due to the resurgence of Edom over half of their territory, and ruling it as a type of falsified High Priest with a few other issues.

Amalek who? Not sure. Remember Esau.

None of that, to me, is a sufficient reason to use an air force to demolish a civilian city.

Not sure what it means, other than he warned them about invading. The strategy and the things to be done are already agreed by the regional leaders, and we just don't know how it works. I am wondering if he can legally shoot Israelis in Gaza in the sense of it not being an act of war.

I've never shared this publicly before, but I believe the time has come. At the age of 24, when I initially entered the realm of politics, an individual from a specific interest group approached me.

They offered a "significant role" in the media if I embraced a pro-Israel, Muslim perspective. They promised me influence and a large platform.

When I declined, their approach turned aggressive, and they even resorted to making threats.

I can't help but wonder how many others are currently experiencing similar pressures.

This National Geographic from December 1947 is a collector’s item with a long article and many unique photographs of pre-state Israel. The article from an archaeologist makes for fascinating reading. Included also is an article with accompanying photographs of Jordan, including Petra.

This issue is the original National Geographic from the date listed above. As a historical item, it is in good shape given its age, with the cover intact and all pages included.

It's very possible you didn't know this, or hadn't remembered, and this is really just a quick note for anyone generally interested, that we have an enormous collection of the National Geographic in the library - some 1,367 of them spanning the period 1888 - (beginning) 2019. It's almost a full collection covering that period.

Journalist Efrat Fenigson served in the Israeli army herself and has some inconvenient questions. How could Hamas breach the Israeli border so easily? And why were they left unimpeded for hours? "A cat walking along the fence activates all the troops. So this?"

Although Fenigson is not a security expert, she has common sense as well as practical experience. She served in the Israeli army in intelligence and was stationed at a border crossing with the Gaza Strip. Like the rest of the world, she was shocked by the atrocities Hamas committed last October 7, 2023 but she was also critical.

For how could it be that one of the most advanced armies in the world did not see this large-scale attack coming? And why did it react so late? “It's strange and it stinks,” she says. “I don't have any answers, but I can point out the obvious questions.”

These are daring questions on this highly sensitive topic. “But it takes people speaking out, asking these questions on behalf of those who are now suffering the loss of loved ones,” Fenigson stressed to reporter Roy Bernabela, who as an Arabist has a thorough knowledge of the Middle East.

The Committee reported in Lausanne, Switzerland on 20 April 1946: Report of the Anglo-American Committee of Enquiry Regarding the Problems of European Jewry and Palestine (Miscellaneous No. 8 (1946) Cmd. 6808). The following year its long term recommendations were published Proposals for the Future of Palestine July, 1946-February, 1947 (Palestine No. 1 (1947) Cmd. 7044).

Administrative / biographical background:

The Anglo-American Committee of Enquiry on Palestine was appointed by the government of the United States and United Kingdom as a joint body with two chairmen, Joseph C. Hutcheson (USA) and John E. Singleton (UK). The Committee was set up in January 1946 to report within 120 days on the political, economic and social conditions in Palestine relevant to the problem of Jewish immigration and settlement therein and the well being of the present population.

It was also to examine the position of Jews in Europe and the practical measures necessary to enable them to live free from discrimination and to estimate those who may wish or be impelled to migrate. The enquiry took the form of public hearings of evidence in Washington DC, London, Cairo and Jerusalem and visits by members to the various countries concerned.

At midnight on May 14, 1948, the Provisional Government of Israel proclaimed a new State of Israel. On that same date, the United States recognized the provisional Jewish government as de facto authority of the Jewish state (de jure recognition was extended on January 31, 1949).

In 1917, Chaim Weizmann – scientist, statesperson, and supporter of the effort to establish a state of Israel – persuaded the British government to issue a statement favoring the establishment of a Jewish national home in Palestine. The statement, which became known as the Balfour Declaration, was, in part, payment to the Jewish people for their support of the British against the Turks during World War I. After the war, the League of Nations ratified the declaration and in 1922 appointed Britain to rule Palestine.

This course of events caused Jewish people to be optimistic about the eventual establishment of a homeland. Their optimism inspired immigration to Palestine from many countries, particularly from Germany when Nazi persecution began. The arrival of many Jewish immigrants in the 1930s awakened Arab fears that Palestine would become a national Jewish homeland. By 1936, guerrilla fighting had broken out between Jews and Arabs. Unable to maintain peace, Britain issued a white paper in 1939 that restricted Jewish immigration into Palestine. Jewish people, feeling betrayed, bitterly opposed the policy and looked to the United States for support.

While President Franklin D. Roosevelt appeared to be sympathetic to the Jewish cause, his assurances to the Arabs that the United States would not intervene without consulting both parties caused public uncertainty about his position. When Harry S. Truman took office, he made clear that his sympathies were with the Jewish people and accepted the Balfour Declaration, explaining that it was in keeping with former President Woodrow Wilson's principle of "self-determination." Truman initiated several studies of the Palestine situation that supported his belief that, as a result of the Holocaust, Jewish people were oppressed and also in need of a homeland. Throughout the Roosevelt and Truman administrations, the Departments of War and State, recognizing the possibility of a Soviet-Arab connection and the potential restriction on oil supplies from Arab nations to the United States, advised against U.S. intervention.

Britain and the United States, in a joint effort to examine the dilemma, established the "Anglo-American Committee of Inquiry." In April 1946, the committee submitted recommendations that Palestine not be dominated by either Arabs or Jews. It concluded that attempts to establish nationhood or independence would result in civil strife; that a trusteeship agreement aimed at bringing the two peoples together should be established by the United Nations; that full Jewish immigration be allowed into Palestine; and that two autonomous states be established with a strong central government to control Jerusalem, Bethlehem, and the Negev, the southernmost section of Palestine.

British, Arab, and Jewish reactions to the recommendations were not favorable. Britain, anxious to rid itself of the problem, set the United Nations in motion, formally requesting on April 2, 1947, that the UN General Assembly set up the Special Committee on Palestine (UNSCOP). This committee recommended that the British mandate over Palestine be ended and that the territory be partitioned into two states.

Jewish reaction was mixed—some wanted control of all of Palestine; others realized that partition spelled hope for their dream of a homeland. Palestinian Arab leaders and other Arab nations were not at all agreeable to the UNSCOP plan. In October, the League of Arab States directed the governments of its member states to move troops to the Palestine border. Meanwhile, President Truman instructed the State Department to support the UN plan, and it reluctantly did so. On November 29, 1947, the partition plan was passed by the UN General Assembly.

At midnight on May 14, 1948, the Provisional Government of Israel proclaimed a new State of Israel. On that same date, the United States, in the person of President Truman, recognized the provisional Jewish government as de facto authority of the Jewish state (de jure recognition was extended on January 31, 1949). The U.S. delegates to the UN and top-ranking State Department officials were angered that Truman released his recognition statement to the press without notifying them first.

On May 15, 1948, the first day of Israeli Independence and exactly one year after UNSCOP was established, Arab armies invaded Israel and the Arab-Israeli War of 1948 began.
