He started speaking a few minutes ago, and I can already see that this is another cautious and balanced speech, basically focusing on the memory of events from the past. As in his first speech last week, he's not calling for war.

No, if anything one might expect it to come from Riyadh:

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said that Gaza has never just been a cause… Palestine is the Cause, and Gaza is the embodiment of its essence and a blatant expression of the suffering of its people.

Addressing the Summit, President al-Assad said that Gaza is part of a whole, and the current aggression against Gaza is part of a 75 years of the Zionist crimes.

President al-Assad considered that 32 years of failed peace, the only result of which was that the entity became more aggressive and the Palestinian situation became more unjust, oppressive, and miserable.

His Excellency stressed that if we do not have real pressure tools, then any step or speech we take will not make sense.

President al-Assad said that “more Arab meekness is equivalent to more Zionist ferocity and massacres against us,” and “talking about the two states and other details is not a priority, despite its importance, since talking about this issue will be in vain.”

President al-Assad added that Zionism surpassed itself in barbarism and murder, which puts us before unprecedented responsibilities.

President al-Assad explained that the Palestinian people do not need our humanitarian aid but rather protection against the genocide that is coming to them.

President al-Assad concluded that the brave Palestinian resistance imposed a new reality in our region and thanks to it we now have the political tools that allow us to change the equations.

One can not be sure what he means--other than Syria and Iran sitting down in Riyadh is highly unusual.

It has been noted that Arab Summits, like the PLO, never do anything.

What the "political means" and "pressure tools" may do to compel Israeli compliance remains to be seen.

After all they just bombed his main airports three times.

No too difficult to repeat the message about calling for cease-fire, Israeli crimes, and American and UN indifference. They don't need a big meeting for this. Arab news does not contain juicy backroom gossip so there are no stray remarks to take out of context. They won't look at how Dr. Assad pets a dog and decide he must be Reptilian. All we know is a guy that Barack Obama said must go has just been hosted by the guy who was overthrowing his country recently. So yes there is a political leverage present which did not exist until the United States caused it to happen by its failed strategies.


And actually, if Hamas is responding to the Saudi normalization with Israel, the President of Iran was there still more or less taming the Saudis:

Gaza, unfortunately, is completely surrounded, whereas Lebanese HZB has wide freedom of motion. On their part, multiple strikes are launched daily, and all that Nasrallah could do would be tell them to seize Israeli territory. If so, it would be a little bit, slowly. Yes, this is also unusual for such a big military action to drag on for a month and no one gets involved. Meanwhile, the question of much needed "protection" has no clear outcome.

Western Media Complicit in Gaza Genocide

Both "left" and "right" media outlets are, generally speaking, deliberately de-humanizing the Palestinian people while propping up the people of Israel as the forever victims of a "conflict" that, quite frankly, would not even exist the way it does today had the self-chosen not taken the land in question by force starting back in the 1940s.

Nearly all mainstream media coverage about this "conflict" makes Israel sound like an innocent victim, while the people of Gaza - all 2.3 million of them - are painted as perpetrators who are trying to "erase" the Jews, or something along those lines.

In light of the recent information about 7th October, ie. the Israeli helicopters and who shot the hostages, the cameramen from the US Press, etc., I'm now wondering about the true fate of Shani Louk, the German tattoo artist who was reported to have been beheaded by Hamas. Although no body has been found, she was identified by a DNA test on a bone fragment that was found in Gaza.

Chris Hedges: I am in the studio of Al Jazeera’s Arabic service watching a live feed from Gaza City. The Al Jazeera reporter in northern Gaza, because of the intense Israeli shelling, was forced to evacuate to southern Gaza. He left his camera behind. He trained it on Al-Shifa hospital, Gaza’s largest medical complex. It is night. Israeli tanks fire directly towards the hospital compound. Long horizontal red flashes. A deliberate attack on a hospital. A deliberate war crime. A deliberate massacre of the most helpless civilians, including the very sick and infants. Then the feed goes dead.

We sit in front of the monitors. We are silent. We know what this means. No power. No water. No internet. No medical supplies. Every infant in an incubator will die. Every dialysis patient will die. Everyone in the intensive care unit will die. Everyone who needs oxygen will die. Everyone who needs emergency surgery will die. And what will happen to the 50,000 people who, driven from their homes by the relentless bombing, have taken refuge on the hospital grounds? We know the answer to that as well. Many of them, too, will die.

There are no words to express what we are witnessing. In the five weeks of horror this is one of the pinnacles of horror. The indifference of Europe is bad enough. The active complicity by the United States is unfathomable. Nothing justifies this. Nothing. And Joe Biden will go down in history as an accomplice to genocide. May the ghosts of the thousands of children he has participated in murdering haunt him for the rest of his life.

Israel and the United States are sending a chilling message to the rest of the world. International and humanitarian law, including the Geneva Convention, are meaningless pieces of paper. They did not apply in Iraq. They do not apply in Gaza. We will pulverize your neighborhoods and cities with bombs and missiles. We will wantonly murder your women, children, elderly and sick. We will set up blockades to engineer starvation and the spread of infectious diseases. You, the “lesser breeds” of the earth, do not matter. To us you are vermin to be extinguished. We have everything. If you try and take any of it away from us, we will kill you. And we will never be held accountable.

We are not hated for our values. We are hated because we have no values. We are hated because rules only apply to others. Not to us. We are hated because we have arrogated to ourselves the right to carry out indiscriminate slaughter. We are hated because we are heartless and cruel. We are hated because we are hypocrites, talking about protecting civilians, the rule of law and humanitarianism while extinguishing the lives of hundreds of people in Gaza a day, including 160 children.

Israel reacted with indignation and moral outrage when it was accused of bombing the al-Ahli Arab Christian hospital in Gaza, which left hundreds of dead. The bombing, Israel claimed, came from an errant rocket fired by Palestine Islamic Jihad. There is nothing in the arsenal of Hamas or Islamic Jihad that could have replicated the massive explosive power of the missile that struck the hospital. Those of us who have covered Gaza have heard this Israel trope so many times it is risible. They always blame Hamas and the Palestinians for their war crimes, now attempting to argue that hospitals are Hamas command centers and therefore legitimate targets. They never provide evidence. The Israeli military and government lie like they breathe.

Medecins Sans Frontieres (Doctors Without Borders), which has staff working in Al-Shifa, issued a statement saying patients, doctors and nurses are "trapped in hospitals under fire." It called on the “Israeli government to cease this unrelenting assault on Gaza’s health system.”

“Over the past 24 hours, hospitals in Gaza have been under relentless bombardment. Al-Shifa hospital complex, the biggest health facility where MSF staff are still working, has been hit several times, including the maternity and outpatient departments, resulting in multiple deaths and injuries,” the statement read. “The hostilities around the hospital have not stopped. MSF teams and hundreds of patients are still inside Al-Shifa hospital. MSF urgently reiterates its calls to stop the attacks against hospitals, for an immediate ceasefire and for the protection of medical facilities, medical staff and patients.”

Three other hospitals in northern Gaza and Gaza City are encircled by Israeli forces and tanks, in what a doctor told Al Jazeera was a “day of war against hospitals.” The Indonesian Hospital has reportedly also lost power. The U.N. Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reports that 20 of 36 hospitals in Gaza no longer function.

Israel and Washington’s cynicism is breathtaking. There are no differences in intent. Washington only wants it done quickly. Humanitarian corridors? Pauses in the shelling? These are vehicles to facilitate the total depopulation of northern Gaza. The handful of aid trucks allowed through the border at Rafah with Egypt? A public relations gimmick. There is only one goal – kill, kill, kill. The faster the better. All Biden officials talk about is what comes next once Israel has finished its decimation of Gaza. They know Israel’s slaughter will not end until Gazans are living in the open without shelter in the southern part of the strip and dying because of a lack of food, water and medical care.

Gaza before Israel’s ground incursion was one of the most densely populated spots on the planet. Imagine what will happen with 1.1 million Gazans from the north piled on top of over 1 million in the south. Imagine what will take place when infectious diseases such as cholera become an epidemic. Imagine the ravages of starvation. The pressure will build to do something. And that something, Israel hopes, will be to push the Palestinians over the border into the Sinai in Egypt. Once there, they will never return. Israel’s ethnic cleansing of Gaza will be complete. Its ethnic cleansing of the West Bank will begin.

That is Israel’s demented dream. To achieve it, they will make Gaza uninhabitable.

Ask yourself, if you were a Palestinian in Gaza and had access to a weapon what would you do? If Israel killed your family, how would you react? Why would you care about international or humanitarian law when you know it only applies to the oppressed, not the oppressors? If terror is the only language Israel uses to communicate, the only language it apparently understands, wouldn’t you speak back with terror?

Israel’s orgy of death will not crush Hamas. Hamas is an idea. This idea is fed on the blood of martyrs. Israel is giving Hamas an abundant supply.

I've thought the same thing. The Arab/Muslim nations are actually being very cautious, despite all the rhetoric.

But as I've posted before, if governments do nothing in practical terms, other independent factions will take the issue into their own hands. (And this is already happening, in terms of militant attacks on US bases in Iraq and Syria. It's also easy to imagine that VERY well-armed factions of Hezbollah may break free from Nasrallah's urged constraints and start to seriously attack Israel from the north.)

I've thought the same thing. The Arab/Muslim nations are actually being very cautious, despite all the rhetoric.

But as I've posted before, if governments do nothing in practical terms, other independent factions will take the issue into their own hands.

I am not sure if we will ever emerge.

Yes the Saudi statement about a second Palestinian state does not match the Iranian desire to remove Israel.

On a state level, most militaries are simply not built on "force projection", they are made to defend their own borders. A bellicose country like Iran cannot do much about the "red line" of Gazan invasion being more than crossed. Syria is probably the only state in a position to "return the favor". Yet they would not be likely to want, for instance, a 100,000-man Turkish force marching through it.

It gets worse, since, now, if anyone says they "support Palestinians", it would mean supporting those who have a genocidal lust for revenge against Israel. There are not really two ways about this.

Therefor the amount of "independents" and what they may do is inestimable. Will there be pogroms in Australia? Norway sending back cheap Tunisian labor from the fish canneries? A great deal of daily on-the ground-operations are not "governed", they are run by "independents", some of whom wind up seizing control of governments, or being voted in, like Hamas.

So we may be headed to an era where the three main strands of Abrahamism are found to be utterly irreconciliable. It may degrade to something that simple. Then, yes, private strife and discontent will take on many forms in many places. In terms of cycles, Europe perhaps managed to convert religious wars into secular capitalists' wars in the 1800s, and that has run its course, since the economy of infinite growth is make-believe, and this aspect has lost its momentum. Now it reverts to the ongoing, deeply-held beliefs that never really left the minds of the followers. Most of those are evidently made-up, too, for something fairly close to these reasons. Manufactured nationalities. Particularly the Israeli one. Then you are still left with three antagonistic creeds quibbling over the same Al Quds.

Chances are this will never be pacified.

U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd J. Austin III confirmed that a U.S. Navy helicopter from the USS Gerald Ford helicopter wing crashed in the Mediterranean Sea, killing five service members.

Austin noted, in addition to praising the victims, that search and rescue efforts are still ongoing, and the circumstances of the disaster have not been reliably clarified.

According to specialized resources, the disaster occurred approximately 50 miles southeast of the island of Cyprus. It is in this area that work is now being carried out to search and recover debris.

"Times of Israel" cited a report on Ynet news outlet saying that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is counting on the former #British prime minister's past experience as an envoy to the Middle East Quartet "to temper international concerns over the civilian cost of Israel’s campaign in #Gaza."

According to the Ynet news outlet, discussions on this matter have been ongoing in recent weeks, and Blair's office responded by stating that he has not been given or offered a position, without explicitly denying any contact.
